What To Do When You Need The Fire Brigade

Ace Fire And Security Equipment • Dec 21, 2022

Fire is unpredictable. That is the key face you need to know before reading this article. You never know when a fire might break out, so it is best to know what to do in that situation when it occurs.

Ace Fire & Security have put together this quick guide on what to do when you need the fire brigade.

Get Out

Never stay in the property where the fire is occurring if you can help it, get out and don’t go back in for any reason. Try to stay low when exiting, especially if there is smoke. If you can’t get out, don’t panic. Fire services are probably on their way already and aim to get to your location within ten minutes. Stay in a room with the door closed and open any windows to signal your location.

Call 999

Calling 999 is always free, so call from any phone anywhere for an instant connection. If you’re unsure whether it is an emergency, sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry so call and report what you’re seeing. No matter how small a fire is, emergency services can help to deal with it.

When you call, ask for the fire services and you will be put through to an operator who will then send the nearest fire engine with the equipment needed to tackle the fire. You should tell this operator the address and postcode, then tell them the situation. This could be details about the fire, is there anyone in the building still and anything else needed.

Fire engines are sent as soon as the address is given and then additional information is communicated to the crew so don’t worry if the phone call appears to be going on for a while without any purpose.
